Request Course 10

How the day works.

A practical approach to contract management.

01

Shape the programme

We agree the programme’s scope: what it covers and what it leaves out. Then we set simple rules for resolving disagreements between teams before work starts.

02

Organise the work

We split the work into separate streams and give each one a named owner. We agree who makes which decision, and where a decision goes when people cannot agree, so nothing sits and waits.

03

Test the plan

We build your list of actions and work out what depends on what. This shows you the single chain of tasks that sets the earliest date you can realistically finish. We then check whether the bus Operators and your own team are both ready for the first day of service.

04

Check and resource

We check whether the people and funding needed for the work are available. We agree how you’ll track progress, then set out the next steps to take back to your sponsor.

What you leave with

Four artefacts to progress after the course.

Your Programme Plan: the shape of your programme, with clear streams of work, decision points, named owners and checks along the way.
A Written Record of Your Reasoning: why you organised the programme this way, and the other options you weighed up.
An Action List: a simple list of what to keep, change, add or remove.
A Guided Programme Template: a ready-made structure with prompts, so you can finish the plan after the day.

BUILD THE COURSES AROUND YOUR PLAN

How the ten courses fit your programme.

Course 3 completes the Strategic Foundation group. Course 1 helps your Authority set its direction, and Course 2 helps you plan the delivery programme. Course 3 then defines how your Authority will run its services and who will deliver them. You can use it before you choose a delivery route. It is relevant to a newly formed Combined Authority, and to an Authority preparing to franchise, work through an Enhanced Partnership or take a BSIP-led approach. The later courses on network, ticketing, customers, systems and contracts build on the model you establish here.
